Road tripping can be a fun process when you know where you’re going and how you’re getting there. When planning a road trip, a few of these famous highways may sound familiar to you, and if you’re not sure which route to take, we highly consider jumping on one of these five famous U.S. highways.
Route 66
Route 66, also known as the “Mother Road,” is one of the most famous and iconic highways in America. It stretches across eight different states running from Illinois to California! quite a stretch right? The highway was established in 1926, making it one of the original highways in the U.S. highway system.
Historically, this route was especially appealing to those in the trucking industry because its diagonal structure was convenient for transporting goods. Today, this route is desirable for travelers because many historic sites and landmarks along Route 66 make for a great drive!

Pacific Coast Highway
Arguably one of the most breathtaking drives in the country is the Pacific Coast Highway. This route is also known as “State Route 1” and runs the Pacific Coastline of California. If you’re planning a California Road trip, prepare yourself, because it’s the longest state route in California!
The options of things to do are endless driving the PCH since you have the opportunity to pass through major cities like San Diego, Long Beach, and Los Angeles.
Whether you want to spend a day at the beach, take a pit stop at the zoo, or are grabbing lunch at one of the best burger spots on the West Coast, this route is for you. U.S. Highway 1
How does a panoramic ocean view sound? Because you’re sure going to get one on this 113 mile “Highway that Goes to Sea” stretch! U.S. Highway 1 allows you to drive from mainland Florida all the way to Key West, and the whole way you’ll be captivated by the beautiful water of the Atlantic Ocean. The road takes you across 42 bridges over the ocean that have excellent views!
In addition, you’ll have the chance to stop and experience things ranging from the Everglades National Park, Florida Keys Wild Bird Center, excellent restaurants, and picturesque views. Blue Ridge Parkway
If you’re seeking a laid back drive with winding roads and Appalachian views, then look no further. This All-American highway takes you through Shenandoah National Park, and the most visited park in America: Great Smoky Mountains.

Great River Road
A scenic drive that you want to experience is the Great River Road. This route goes through ten states and runs along the course of the mighty Mississippi River.
If you didn’t stop, it would take 36 hours to drive the entire length of the Great River Road scenic byway. If you stopped at every interesting place along the way, it would take you months to traverse this road! We recommend narrowing down your activities to a few things to see or restaurants to try along the way.
