When Salt Lake City, Utah might not be the first place that comes to mind when you’re vacation planning, you’re missing out! SLC truly has something for everyone, from amazing sports, to great shopping and incredible nature, it’s a prime spot to spend some time on your next vacation.

Embrace the Culture

While you might not know much about it, Salt Lake City is the official headquarters of the Mormon Church. Because of that, the city has some pretty incredible historical and architectural buildings and museums related to the church that should be impressive to anyone.

Start your site seeing at Temple Square, which is a huge three block plaza that can be toured daily. In this square there are also a number of free concerts, and it’s also home to the impressive Salt Lake Temple, and the Tabernacle which is open to visitors daily.

Enjoy the Outdoors

Salk Lake City is well known for it’s natural beauty. Just a mere 25 miles outside the city center, you’ll find Big Cottonwood Canyon. This area is well known (and loved) by locals and visitors alike for hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and fishing. For those who just want a quick peek of the natural beauty, hop on U-152 to take in the Big Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byway.

Home to the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Olympic Legacy Park is one of the biggest attractions for out of town visitors. There are a number of events held there on a weekly basis, and plenty of activities like rope courses, alpine slides and zip lines to enjoy.

If you enjoy skiing, then you have to visit Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas in the winter. Dubbed “Ski City” by those in the know, skiers, snowboarders and snowshoers can find four amazing mountain resorts within only a thirty minute drive of downtown.

Experience Excellent Dining

Like many other cities, Salt Lake City has a vibrant and lively restaurant and brewery scene. Some of local favorites for craft beer include Epic Brewing Company, which features high alcohol content beer, and Squatters, one of the hottest brewpubs in SLC.

As for dining, well, there are plenty of hot spots to choose from. One of the places that attracts locals and visitors alike is Red Iguana, home of “killer Mexican food.” A couple of other favorites include the Park Cafe, for an amazing breakfast, and RubySnap for some of the best cookies you’ll find, anywhere.

Getting Around

There is a major international airport in Salt Lake City, serving airlines from all over the country. In and around the airport you’ll find plenty of car rental spots, as well as shuttle buses in and out of the city.

Downtown Salt Lake City

If you have your own car with you, getting around Salt Lake City is pretty quick and easy, there is street parking available in most areas. If you want to enjoy some public transportation, the light rail line called TRAX with a couple of color coded lines that go around Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas.
