Food trucks are quickly becoming all the rage in many cities, and it’s really easy to see why they are so popular. For the diner food trucks offer a great meal at a reasonable price on the go, the food is always fresh and the menu changes seasonally.
Boston is one city that has had an explosion of variety on the food truck scene in the past year which makes for some hard (and delicious) choices for residents and visitors alike. Let’s take a look at a few of the options.
Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese
You might recognize Roxy’s Gourmet Grilled Cheese from the stint they did on the Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race. The boys at Roxy’s can make one mean grilled cheese and have a lot of interesting options, with the Green Muenster (smoked bacon, guacamole, muenster cheese) being a personal favorite.
Staff Meal
For the real food lovers in town, check out Staff Meal, a truck made by foodies for foodies. The truck claims to serve you a meal “prepared for a resturant staff, by a resturant staff,” so be prepared to see a menu that is a little more out there than your standard issue food truck. If you want to give it a shot, you’ve got to try the truck made Chinese sausage burrito.
Pennypackers
Tucked away in South Boston, Pennypackers is a true hidden gem. While you might have to do a bit of legwork to find the truck, you certainly won’t be disappointed. Featuring some delicious homemade meats and soups (perfect for a chilly winter afternoon in Boston), most people feel you can’t go wrong with the flank steak sandwich.
Cupcakory
What’s a great meal without a little dessert? Cupcakory has the distinction of being the first cupcake truck in Boston. Using only locally sourced ingredients you’re hard pressed to find a better cupcake around. Personal favorite: the Samoa made with vanilla butter cake, bourbon vanilla buttercream, toasted coconut and finished with a chocolate and caramel drizzle.
After exploring all these options, you might just have to find a square of grass on Boston Common and spend the rest of the day relaxing!
