The time has come. Your destination is chosen, bags are packed, car has a full tank of a gas and you’re ready to hit the road. Whether you’re thinking about taking a cross-country road trip, taking one for the first time, or taking one again – it’s never a bad idea to re-fresh your memory (or learn the basics) of what to expect on a cross-country road trip. In our previous post about pre-road trip safety, now is the time we get you on the road and ready for the adventure.
First thing is first,
Map out your itinerary. You’ll want to have a pretty good idea of where you’re going along the way. If you’re taking a trip from Florida to Oregon – do some research! See what stops you’ll want to make, restaurants to visit and attractions to see along the way.
Make hotel reservations in advance. This is a very important part of your road trip. You’ll be thankful you made the reservations, so you know where your stay each night.
Pack a cooler of snack and drinks. Don’t get us wrong, gas station food and fast food are okay… SOMETIMES. You’ll be happy when you’re feeling thirsty or hungry and your cooler full of your favorite snacks are in the back seat. You will get hungry and tired on the trip, it’s important to stay fueled!
Get your car serviced. We did mentioned this in our previous post, but just to reiterate – you DON’T want any car trouble when you’re on the road. Make sure to get the important parts checked before hitting the road –
- Battery
- Brakes
- Tire tread and pressure
- Windshield wipers
- Headlights and brake lights
- Fluid levels
- Belts and hoses
