October 1st marks the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness month and over the years, this cause has catapulted into something huge. What started off as just a few survivors spreading the word about self-checks and encouraging women to get mammograms has now become a widely recognized cause. Considering so many women (and men too) are affected by breast cancer, we couldn’t be happier about how much recognition this disease is getting. Brands, organizations, corporations and companies stand behind the belief that awareness can help save many lives and that donations can contribute to research efforts that we hope will eventually lead towards a cure. We’d be remiss if we didn’t wave our pretty pink flag in support of this cause. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we’ve gathered a few ways of how you can get behind the cause. Oftentimes simply recognizing it isn’t enough. If you’re like us and would rather be proactive, then be sure to share this post with your friends and family members. Spread the word about breast cancer awareness and who knows – in doing so, we could be saving a life!
Run A 5K
There are so many walks dedicated to breast cancer awareness so finding one in your neck of the woods shouldn’t be too difficult. The most popular race, of course, would be the Komen Race for the Cure. Thousands of these races happen annually in just about every state in the United States. Run, jog, walk or wheel among thousands of survivors and supporters. Proceeds of the race go to a great cause and after the run, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment that you may not have ever felt before. Everyone wins when you run a race for a good cause.
Order A Pizza
While it may seem counter-productive after running a 5K, if you’ve just got to get some pizza to hit those taste buds of yours, order from Hungry Howie’s. Why Hungry Howie’s? All month long, the popular pizza chain will be donating $1 from every large pizza to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Not only are you indulging in a yummy and piping hot pizza, but you can also feel good that you’ve donated to a good cause. Plus, let’s face it – a fan of the color pink or not, those boxes are pretty eye catching.
Wear A Pink Ribbon
One of the most popular and visual representatives of breast cancer awareness supporters are those supporting a pink ribbon. These pink ribbons can be found everywhere during the month of October and we think they are the best way to spark up conversation about this terrible disease. But don’t be the only one at your job, social group or school wearing the ribbon. Spread the love! Purchase the ribbons in bulk and pass them around to friends and family members. Get everyone involved with understanding how they can potentially help prevent breast cancer and how they can support the cause as well.
We hope that we’ve helped put breast cancer awareness on your radar. If you can think of any other ways that we can all help support this cause, please let us know!
