Cinco De Mayo, or the 5th of May, is a holiday celebrated by millions of people throughout the United States and Mexico. The holiday marks the anniversary of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, in which a Mexican army conquered the invading French forces of Napoleon III.
Not to be confused with Mexico’s Independence Day – September 16 – Cinco De Mayo is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride. It is usually accompanied by an array of delicious Mexican cuisine, including fresh margaritas!
