This race is held every year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which is less than a 20-minute drive from downtown Indianapolis. NASCAR Hall of Fame
The heart of NASCAR can be found in Charlotte, North Carolina. Here, racing fans will see the NASCAR Hall of Fame. This state of the art building in downtown Charlotte is less than ten years old and combines a hall of fame with a museum. It’s got four full floors dedicated to everything racing from the high tech side to the classic stock cars of old.
National Corvette Museum
Many young race fans dream about driving a Corvette, the classic American muscle car when they grow up. So, it’s no wonder the National Corvette Museum is a real treat for many. Located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the museum features over 80 different Corvettes including one of a kind and special editions. You don’t want to miss it.
Bonneville Salt Flats
The Bonneville Salt Flats is home to some of the world’s greatest land speed records. This huge expanse of land is hard white salt and flat as can be for 30,000 acres. Mark your calendars because there are a handful of major events that are held here every year. The Flats are right off Interstate 80 on the Utah and Nevada border.
Shelby Factory
Any fan of the racecar will recognize a Shelby right away. Carroll Shelby created this iconic car and, for many, changed the face of car racing forever. So, it makes sense, so many people make time to go to the Shelby Factory when in Las Vegas to take a tour. It’s free to visit, and tours are offered daily except on Sundays.
Daytona International Speedway
Daytona is home to one of the best beach atmospheres in the country. But, it’s also home to the Daytona International Speedway. The Speedway is home to the Daytona 500, one of the premier events in racing. If you can’t make it for the race, never fear, visitors can explore the track and take a tour of the speedway.
Churchill Downs
Cars aren’t the only things that race. The popularity of the Kentucky Derby each year highlights that. Churchill Downs, home of the Derby, makes for an excellent destination for racing fans as well. The grounds feature not only the racing track, but there’s also a museum as well. Bourbon fans will also love the nearby distilleries in the region.
