The world’s very first Dr. Seuss Museum opened up last summer in Springfield, Massachusetts- the town he was born. Have you and your family gone yet?

If you never did you should. These things are fun, and fun is good. Dr. Seuss

Theodor Seuss Geisel was an American writer best known for the 60 plus children’s books he created and illustrated under the pen name, Dr. Seuss. With daring and inventive wordplay, he revolutionized the way children learn to read, and received several awards while doing it: Oscars, Emmy’s, and the Pulitzer Prize. He reshaped an entire generation and set the pathway for those that followed. For this reason, people continue to celebrate his birthday on March 2, by reading and throwing whimsical parties in his honor. He was and is still beloved by many. Learn more about his childhood and life’s work by visiting the museum.

Oh, the places you will go- inside of this two-story museum.

It is truly fun for all ages. Kids and parents alike can expect to have hours of fun on the first floor with interactive exhibits, rhyming games, and their own nonsensical story creations. Familiar characters from each of his books come to life all around you with sculptures and murals along the walls. For example, kids can even climb aboard the Seven Hump Wump.

The second floor gives you a glimpse of who Geisel was and what his world looked like. Such as his personal items, all donated by family. Take a look at his desk and chair, awards, top hats and bow ties, and never-before-seen artwork.

Due to its popularity, tickets should be purchased in advance. To ensure a pleasant experience for everyone, only a certain number of tickets are given per hour. If you are traveling from out of town, a special number is put aside. But, you will still need to make reservations.

Although the museum is a part of a large complex which contains several other museums, including a Dr. Suess sculpture garden, created a decade ago, The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss Museum is the first one dedicated to Seuss himself.

Visitors pay admission to one museum and receive access to all of the other ones on the property. Springfield Residents (with a valid ID) are free. All other visitors are $25 for adults, $16.50 for seniors and college students, $13 for ages 3-17 and free for children under 3.
