When most people think about visiting New York, Manhattan is probably the first place that comes to mind. However, there are some amazingly beautiful places in upstate New York that are perfectly suited for a road trip through the region.

If you are interested in nature, photography, craft beer, antiquing and wine, then the Finger Lakes region of New York state is perfect for you. Starting just west of Syracuse and ending just east of Geneseo there are actually 11 lakes that dot the landscape providing a really beautiful area to travel through.

The lakes offer a ton of activities all year, from sailing to hiking to spending an afternoon on the wine trail, there is going to be something for everyone. Here are a just a few of the activities that are available to those who are looking to spend a few days traveling along the Finger Lakes.

Rooster Fish Brewing: Situated right on the shore of Lake Seneca, Rooster Fish Brewing offers a variety of craft beers that are made right in the brewery. Beyond enjoying some locally sourced brew, the cafe often features live music and samples to enjoy.

Reagan’s Finger Lakes Canoe and Kayak: What better activity for a summer day than spending some time out on the water. The Finger Lakes offer some awesome scenery, and there is something special about spending time paddling around with friends and family.

Finger Lakes Wine Trails: There are so many amazing wine trails in the Finger Lakes that it’s hard to find the best one! But, the good news is that many of the vineyards that are on the various wine trails are going to offer delicious snacks like cheese, bread and chocolate as well.

Big House Stables: The Finger Lakes is home to amazing nature trails and rolling farmlands, horse lovers will end up finding plenty of areas to spend a day riding. Many couples and families spend an afternoon at a horse riding lesson during the summer and fall.

Genesee Country Village: Offering an incredible historic village that brings visitors right back in time from a pioneer village to a thriving early 1900’s main street, this site is a museum brought to life. Families will have an amazing time strolling through the streets and learning about the past of the region.
