Boston is well known for many of its excellent restaurants, in fact for such a small city, it does have its fair share of great places to eat. One of the local’s favorite places to grab a quick sandwich or a delicious baked treat is Flour Bakery.
The bakery is the brainchild of head chef Joanne Chang, who has been featured all over places like the Food Network, The Today Show on NBC and even National Geographic Traveller for her amazing baking creations. Her sticky buns are so good, even famous Chef Bobby Flay challenged her on his TV show Throwdown!
So, when I had the chance to take a baking class at Flour Bakery, I jumped at the chance. This the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon if you are in Boston during your vacation or road trip.
The classes are offered just about each month, and range from things like everything chocolate to Thanksgiving pies to brunch treats. This class is not hands on, but the site is so intimate that you are able to ask plenty of questions and volunteer to participate a little bit.
In addition to giving you copies of the recipes that are featured in the class, along with plenty of tips for how to impress your friends by baking these treats when you get home, the class also is offered massive samples of each treat that is made. Even if you are not that into baking, the treats alone are certainly worth the trip!
If you aren’t around during one of Flour’s classes, it is still highly recommended that you stop in and grab a bite to eat. Their desserts are easily packed into boxes, so you can carry them off to a nice picnic lunch at your next stop in Boston, or for the car once you are off to your next road trip destination!
