For many people, crisp autumn weather means it’s the time of year for fun activities such as pumpkin carving, hay rides, and something with a bit more of a challenge – corn mazes. If you want to be put to the test, you’ll want to visit Farmer J’s World Record Corn Maze in Dundee, Michigan.
Farmer J’s 2010 corn maze received two Guinness World Records
Each year since 2001, Lyle Jaworski and his family have been building some of the biggest and best corn mazes in the world – including their American theme made up of the Liberty Bell, George Washington, and the Statue of Liberty. This 2010 maze granted the Jarowski family with two world records – World’s Biggest Corn Maze and World’s Longest Corn Maze Path, coming in at almost 10.5 miles.
If you’re really up for a challenge, just getting in and out is only the beginning. There are 18 checkpoints hidden throughout the trails, and it’s up to you to try to find them all. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and put new batteries in your flashlights, because you can spend hours getting lost in the field.
There’s more motivation than bragging rights in this field. Locals often use a pledge form to ask sponsors to donate a certain amount of money for each checkpoint reached. Last year, Farmer J donated $11,000 to veteran’s charities from the checkpoint sponsorships.
Farmer J’s World Record Corn Maze is open September 12 – November 2 on Fridays from 6 PM – 9 PM and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 PM – 10 PM. Maps and landmarks are provided to allow you to choose your difficulty in this year’s Outback-themed experience.
The Country Corn Maze in Corunna, Michigan is even more family-friendly with 4 separate mazes at varying age levels. The Country Corn Maze is open September 4 – November 12. You can join the fun on Thursdays and Fridays, 6 PM – 10 PM; Saturdays 1 PM – 10 PM; and Sundays 1 PM – 8 PM.
