During the holidays you either scramble to figure out how you’re getting home or have a plan played out and booked weeks ahead of time. If you’re in the category of scrambling, take these tips into consideration to help you get home safe and chaos-free.
Plan Travel Ahead of Time
Start your holiday travel planning early. If you plan on flying, try to sign up for sale notifications from your preferred airlines. If you catch the sale and book early enough, you can saved hundreds of dollars on travel.
Pack Light
If you’re going away for a few days, try to pack as light as possible so you don’t have to check a bag. Look over your flights baggage policies before the day you fly.
Fly on the Right Days
Most travelers are aware that the day before Thanksgiving or the day after Christmas are usually the busiest travel days of the year. To avoid long lines, delays and chaos be flexible with your dates. Extending or cutting your trip a day could save hundreds of dollars.
Holiday Road Travel
Traveling on the road certainly has it benefits, but there are also a fair amount of headaches that come with it. Traffic can become an issue on heavily traveled routes, like the I-95 corridor on the East Coast, adding hours to generally speedy trips. Plan your route ahead of time and travel with a GPS system, smart phone or old-school maps to offer alternatives if you need a Plan B. Keep change on you for toll roads.
