Even though it’s spent at or near your home, a staycation is still a vacation. You don’t need to travel to a far off destination to kick back, relax and unwind. You do need to put the world on hold though, meaning no clocks, no phones, no watches, no emails, no news. This Father’s Day plan an epic staycation for the special dad in your life.
One of the best things about a staycation is that it’s budget-friendly. People are able to save the expense of airline tickets and hotel stays and replace them with cheaper alternatives like camping, taking a local road trip and ordering in. Here are some ideas for planning the perfect Father’s Day staycation.
Go Camping
There are more than 13,000 public campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada. Surely there is one within a few hours driving distance of you and your family. Camping is a great way to get out of the house and into nature without breaking the bank. Start the summer out right with a night under the stars. Pack up the camping essentials, get the s’more supplies together and bring the fishing rods.
Create a Backyard Water Park
Set up the backyard with as many water games as possible. Break out the kiddie pool, slip ‘n slide, water guns and other water toys. Decree an all-day uniform of a swimsuit and bare feet, and get playing! Have a water balloon toss, play water limbo or sponge dodgeball, have a bucket dump and run through old-fashioned sprinklers. Treat the family to an afternoon BBQ for a break and then get back to it after everyone’s food digests. There’s only one rule – no phones allowed (except to take pictures)!
Not only will you and your husband feel like kids again, you’ll stay cool and save money this Father’s Day weekend.
Stay at a Hotel
Pack up the suitcases and jet off to a downtown hotel. It’s the closest thing to getting out of town (next to actually getting out of town). Think of all the amenities you get from a hotel or resort — all-day access to the pool, fresh sheets, a comfy bed and room service. Surprise dad when he walks into the room with a gift basket sitting on the bed.
Plus, you’re walking distance from great bars, restaurants, museums and other downtown attractions. This is the ultimate staycation because you’ll really feel like you are in another town when you’re right at home.
Have a New England Seafood Feast
Has your dad or hubby been craving a trip to New England mainly to enjoy the fresh seafood? Plan ahead and bring the seafood to him. Order Harbour House Crab’s blue-crab dinners for two and have it delivered to your doorstep. Don’t forget the wine! The only finger you have to lift for this feast is to cork the wine and crack the shells.
Create a Theme Day
Is dad’s happy place laying under the shade of a palm tree, sipping pina coladas and listening to the sweet sounds of the steel drum? Bring the islands right into your home by creating a theme day/night. Decorate the house as if you were at a beach resort. Roll up the rugs so your feet walk along the cool wooden floors; set the mood by putting on a vacation sound track; dress in your finest beach wear and get out the blender for those glorious iced cocktails (mocktails for the kids). This family is going to the Caribbean for the day, and they aren’t coming back until tomorrow.
