Thanksgiving in New England means more than just pilgrims and cranberries, it is also the unofficial start of ski season! Each year, around this time, skis and snowboards around the region come out of the basement, and off for a tune up. Of all of the resorts in the New England region, Killington is one of the most popular.
LOCATION
Located in the heart of Vermont, Killington Ski Resort is a perfect winter ski trip destination for those in the east. Only 2.5 hours from Boston, 4.5 hours from New York City, 2 hours from Albany and 3 hours from New Haven, it’s a trip that makes for an easy ski weekend.
FACTS AND FIGURES
Nicknamed “The Beast,” Killington is the largest ski resort in the East, and has a 3,050 vertical drop, the biggest in New England. What might surprise you is that the resort is actually made up of 6 interconnected mountains, which explains why Killington is so huge. Skiers and riders can choose from over 140 trails and more than 20 lifts to get you to the top of the mountain.
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
One of the biggest reasons why Killington is so popular in New England is that it’s trails allow anyone, from beginner to expert to hit the slopes. With the difficulty of the trails essentially split in thirds, ranging from bunny slopes to double black diamonds, a family or group with different experiences can all get out on the runs that suit their levels. Killington also has a halfpipe for snowboarding, moguls and five terrain parks.
HITTING THE LODGE
Everyone knows one of the best parts of going out to the mountain is relaxing in the lodge apres ski! Well take your pick, because Killington has something for everyone. From kid friendly, to sushi friendly, to beers and waffles friendly (the favorite of many), you can comfortably relax by one of the roaring fireplaces for a few hours.
