Imagine a drive through Florida’s oldest city during Thanksgiving and Christmas time for an annual event called the Night of Lights.
Night of Lights
Now in its 27th year, Night of Lights is an annual event that celebrates the holiday season with a dazzling display of white lights. About three million of them illuminate the gorgeous buildings of the historic city. Not only is St. Augustine Florida’s oldest city, but it’s also the oldest continuously occupied city in the entire country.
Tours
There are several ways to enjoy the evening. You can hop on one of the city’s Old Town Trolleys and get a guided tour, or have a more traditional experience by train from the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Museum.
Looking for a really memorable time? Try a St. Augustine Eco Tour, which will take you through the town on a boat with a small group of others. And for the perfect date night experience, you can opt for a group or private horse and carriage tour, which takes you through the charming, glowing streets with your sweetheart. There’s even the option to zoom around in a luxury golf cart with a few of your pals!
Walk
Of course, if you want to go at your own pace, you’ll want to walk—though guided 90-minute strolls are available if you’d like a little narration to accompany your exploration. No matter what you do, head to the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse as a grand finale to get a bird’s-eye view of the amazing city below.
Admission
The best part? The event is completely free! This year, Night of Lights takes place this year every evening from November 14 to January 31, 2021. However, there have been some adjustments to the normal festivities as a result of the coronavirus pandemic; the Light Up! Night ceremony, typically held the first Saturday of the event, has been canceled.
