…to the Dixie stampede of, course. In Dolly Parton’s very own theme park, Dollywood.
Dollywood
Who doesn’t love Dolly? Not only is her attraction one of the top places to visit in Pigeon Forge, but it’s also one of the most talked about theme parks in the country! Hope you’re fixin’ to spend a full day here because, with all the rides and delicious southern-style dining, you might be awhile.
In addition to amusement rides, you will find:
- Chasing Rainbows Museum- A whole museum dedicated to how Ms. Parton got her start.
- Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Attraction- A live dinner show like no other.
- Plenty of crafts and live music. Sometimes there is even live concerts from Dolly herself-who is still just as pretty as a peach in case you are wondering.
- Dollywood Splash Country Water Park – An excellent way to cool off during your visits in the hotter months.
Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies
Okay, technically this one is in Gatlinburg. However, it’s only 15 minutes outside of Pigeon Forge and an excellent place to take the whole family. Meaning- it’s worth the drive. And if you think just because you’ve seen one aquarium, you’ve seen them all; you’re wrong. This two-story aquarium is unlike any other one you’ve visited.
There is a penguin exhibit, with a tunnel that you can crawl through for an extra close view of them. It also has a massive playground right in the center of the building, as well as a sting-ray petting area, an impressive walk-through shark tunnel, and even a World War 2 exhibit for a quick history lesson. Don’t miss out!
Outdoor Gravity Park
Is there a better way to bond with your tween or teen, than to be stuffed side-by-side into adult-sized hamster balls and rolled down the side of the Smoky mountains?
Probably. But, it wouldn’t be nearly as exhilarating or interesting to talk about.
So, what are you waiting for? Cross this action item off your travel to-do list, and snag yourself cool parent points (if there is such a thing?).
Zip Line Tours
Ziplining is another activity the older kids will enjoy, and another great way to see a unique view of the Smoky Mountains. There are several ziplining companies to choose from in the area, so be sure to check out the reviews before you make a decision, and ask them in advance about age-appropriate routes for the group you have in tow.
Goats on the Roof
If you are in the area and want to do something quick and fun for the kiddos- take this pleasantly paced rollercoaster on a trip up the mountain. Hug your little one, soak in the view, and then feed some goats together once you get back down to the bottom. The first ride is $15, but any after that is only $5, for the rest of the day, which isn’t baa-ad at all.
Christmas Place
If you’ve ever wondered where Santa spends his time during Off Christmas season, it’s at Christmas Place in Pigeon Forge. The adults can shop for every kind of Christmas ornaments, artificial trees, and home decorations, while the children visit with Santa Clause (except on Tuesdays and Wednesdays), or write him a letter to let him know how good they’ve been good this year.
