NASCAR Hall of Fame
You don’t have to be a racing aficionado or speed demon to have a blast at this attraction. Behind-the-scenes tours, a collection of historic cars and racetracks, and multimedia presentations will get you up close and personal with all things NASCAR.
The Billy Graham Library
One of the most influential and popular pastors of all time, Billy Graham hails from Charlotte, and his 4,000 square-foot estate is a sight to behold. Not only can you learn more about the famous figure through exhibits and activities, but you can walk through his childhood home, and grab lunch at the Dairy Bar. In addition, you can shop for books in the bookstore, and stroll through the Memorial Prayer Garden.
Lake Norman
When the weather is nice, there are few better places to be in the greater Charlotte area. Just under 20 miles from the city, the man-made lake is the largest of its kind in the entire state. Wake-boarding, jet-skiing, fishing, sailing, or rowing–all are possible at Lake Norman.
Carolinas Aviation Museum
Aspiring pilots and airplane aficionados of all ages will love the Carolinas Aviation Museum. Divided into sections for commercial, civil, military, and helicopter aviation, visitors will see all kinds of aircraft, including the famous Airbus A-320, the plane safely landed by Chesley Sullenberger during the “Miracle on the Hudson.”
Old Mecklenburg Brewery
This German-style Brewery and Bierhall feels miles away from North Carolina (and the United States). See how it’s made with a free tour, held on Saturdays and Sundays, and then head to the Brauhaus to enjoy what’s on tap. Hungry? You’ll find all of the classic snacks here, too, including soft pretzels and wurst. A full menu of pizza, wings, and sandwiches is also available.
The Charlotte Museum of Natural History
Get a taste of how Charlotte used to be at this Natural History Museum, which is home to exhibits dedicated to neighborhood artifacts and photographs, paintings depicting Charlotte’s role in the Revolutionary War, and even sports memorabilia from Charlotte’s home teams. The museum itself is a restored Colonial home, adding to its charm.
