In case you were curious- Providence, Rhode Island is the perfect spot to vacation (or live!). It has all of the friendliness you’d hope to find in a small town, but with big city culture.
In this post, you will find a quick guide to the best things to see and do during your stay.
Getting There
Providence, the capital city of Rhode Island, is one short hour from Boston and three hours from New York City, making it pretty easily accessible. So, what are you waiting for?
See & Do
Start things off at the scenic Providence Riverwalk, and discover a number of shops, restaurants, and historic landmarks, including Memorial Park. For a unique view of the water, take a cruise around the water in an authentic Venetian gondola. Because it’s a popular thing to do, you will need to call in advance to book reservations. If you are visiting during May through November, look out for the show WaterFire. It’s a multisensory nighttime art installation which combines bonfires, music and flickering lights for a truly magnificent experience. If you are visiting with kids (and even if you’re not), The Roger Williams Zoo remains one of the city’s top attractions. Learn all about Komodo dragons and red koalas. Or feed giraffes, harbor seals, and farmyard animals. Take a stroll back in time on Benefit Street. There you will find a mile of history on the cobblestone street lined with historic buildings. Among them is the Nightingale-Brown House which was built in 1792.
Eat
Satisfy every kind of craving for the people in your party by heading to “The Hill”. Federal Hill is a historic area where you will find options ranging from Mediterranean cuisine to Caribbean, Mexican and Chinese. However, due to the large Italian American community in the neighborhood, Italian is their real specialty.
Try a plate of Chicken Saltimbocca at Andino’s Italian Restaurant, the freshest mozzarella at Enoteca Umberto, or grab a pizza pie from none other than Caserta Pizzeria.
Enjoy
