I’m a true southerner, born and raised in the south and if there’s one thing I know well, it’s good southern cooking. From shrimp and grits to collard greens, there’s no place better in the south to get the crème de la crème of a real southern meal than the famous town of Savannah, Georgia.
From fresh seafood to perfectly battered fried chicken, Savannah is home to some of the best southern food in not just the south, but also the entire country. I was thrilled when I got the chance to visit Savannah, put on my eating pants and hit the town. It wasn’t hard finding good food in Savannah, but if I had to choose, here are some of my top picks:
The Olde Pink House
There’s no way I was going to Savannah without paying a visit to the famous Olde Pink House. Aside for it’s historical significance, this pink-brick mansion isn’t only a restaurant that will take you back in time, it will satisfy your taste buds in ways you didn’t know they could be satisfied. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens. If I had enough room in my belly for two plates, I would have placed two orders, that’s how good it was!
Pacci Italian Kitchen & Bar Restaurant
Located in the latest savvy Savannah hotel, The Brice, Pacci Italian Kitchen + Bar is downtown Savannah’s swank new destination for delicious Italian food and drink. Using only local meats and seafood, Pacci Italian Kitchen combines traditional Italian flavors with a modern twist, leaving guests wanting more.
Tubby’s Tank House
Overlooking the Savannah River, Tubby’s Tank House is a combination of a southern seafood house and a casual steakhouse. I ordered their famous Shrimps and Grits and was not disappointed! From the fresh shrimp to the perfect texture of the grits, the combined flavors made me proud to be a native southerner.
Paula Deen’s – The Lady and Sons Restaurant
You’ve heard of her throughout the years for her escalating popularity in the food world, and few get the chance to visit her restaurant, The Lady & Sons, where it all started. Paula Deen is a southern as it gets and they don’t hold back when it comes to cooking. For them, more is more. The more the better and everything is served in large quantities. Make sure you go hungry!
It’s difficult to pick what the best restaurants in Savannah are considering each one has its own mystic, and they are all so good! So now we want to hear your side of it.
