New York City: A Solo Traveler’s Dream Destination

New York City has to be one of the best places in the world for a solo traveler to visit. There is so much to do, so much to see and so many people around that you’ll hardly even realize you’re traveling alone.

In the city that never sleeps you can find something to do for pretty much anything you love. A foodie? You’re in the right place. Love sports? Got plenty of that. Enjoy the theater, you can see 10 shows a day. And that’s just the city getting started.

Ready to give it a shot? Here are some of the best places to see for any solo visit to New York City.

Museum Central

New York has some of the best museums in the world, and any solo traveler can get lost for hours and hours inside any of them, and it’s easy to see why. Start off by heading to some of the biggies like the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), American Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

For some of the lesser known, but no less interesting spots try exploring the (supposedly haunted) Merchant’s House Museum, The City Reliquary, and the Morbid Anatomy Museum.

Food Galore

One thing you have to love about New York is you can find incredible food on basically every single corner. From “street meat” to the very best in five star luxury dining, it’s all here. Start with a couple of these single friendly spots like Eataly, Chef Mario Batali’s giant food mecca; Gotham West Market is another great spot. When all else fails, just head to the bar and take a seat.

Of course, you never want to forget dessert, for those famous “cronuts” you’ve been hearing about on the news go to Dominique Ansel Bakery; for cookies, cakes and pies head to Momofuku Milk Bar.

Wander

The best thing about being a tourist in NYC is you can just wander around. The city itself is so huge, there are a ton of little neighborhoods to explore that are so different from the rest.

For a trendy vibe head down to the West Village and Meatpacking Districts, here you can get in some shopping and stroll along the tiny cobbled alleyways of old school New York. Plus, keep an eye out, because many celebs call this part of New York City home.

From there, take a walk on the Highline, an elevated public park that leads into Midtown and famous sites like Bryant Park (check to see if free movies are playing), Times Square (there’s always something going on here) and the Empire State Building.

Central Park

Keep heading north and you will pass sites like 30 Rock, Columbus Circle and Lincoln Center to come to the famous Central Park. Spend a few hours laying in the sun and enjoying a tiny bit of peace in the bustling city! Also around this area are many of the best museums and beautiful homes.

If you’ve been thinking about doing your first solo trip, or have even been on a million solo trips, New York City is an amazing place to explore on your own.
