There are over 30 “Springfields” located in different states through the US. (Wow, right? How many have you been to? We’d love to know!)

But inside this post, we are going to tell you about what you can see and do inside Springfield, Massachusetts. Are you ready?

Do

Win money

Thanks to MGM moving into the neighborhood in 2017, Springfield isn’t just the New England city everyone is driving through but not stopping at anymore. Now it’s a pretty happening place to be.

Start your visit in Springfield off with a stop at this 900 million dollar casino. Win yourself some vacation money at the slot machines and table games. Then when you’re done -or if gambling isn’t your thing- keep busy at the concert venues, nightclubs, top golf, restaurants, and seven-screen cinema.

Get Fresh Air

Inside of Forest Park, you will find a little of this and that; A beautiful rose garden to stroll through, playgrounds for the kids, walking and hiking trails, a pond, basketball and tennis courts, and a zoo too: “The Zoo.”

If you’re visiting around Christmastime, be on the lookout for the annual seasonal event called “Bright Nights.” It’s a 30-minute magical drive through a portion of the park which is decorated with dancing lights. What’s more, there are horse-drawn wagon carriage rides and snacks with Santa.

If you came to Springfield looking to learn something- you’re in luck. There are several interesting museums to see. Start at Springfield Museums; a cluster of several museums housed on one property including George Walter Vincent Smith Art Museum, Springfield Science Museum, Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts, Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History, Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, and The Amazing World of Dr. Seuss.

Did you know, Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss) was born and raised in Springfield? Now you do! Inside his museums, you can expect all sorts of kid-friendly, interactive spaces, an artifact-filled recreation of his studio and an extensive collection of bowties.

Want more?

Continue exploring history at the Titanic Historical Society where you will find artifacts that were aboard the ship, and the Springfield Armory National Historic Site which holds the world’s largest collection of American military small arms.

Last but least, if you’re a sports fan, find out all about why and when Basketball was invented over at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Do you play ball yourself? Well, lace up! Because the museum will let you partake in a skills challenge and shooting contest.

Eat like a local and enjoy authentic German foods like bratwurst and schnitzel at The Student Prince and The Fort (aka, “The Fort”); a Springfield staple since 1935. And save room for the apple strudel.

For music and a meal, how about a little blues, booze and BBQ over at Theodores BBQ. On different nights throughout the week, they offer live shows and karaoke.

If you’re visiting during September and aren’t sure what you’re in the mood for, wander around one of New England’s largest Farmer’s Markets: The Big E. It draws in over 1 million visitors a year. Eat cream puffs and Maine baked potatoes, visit the wine barn, watch butter sculptors at work, cheer for racing pigs and more more.

Have fun
