Raise your hand if you love a ghost tour!
That’s right, we thought there would be a few of you. The fact of the matter is, ghost tours are not only incredibly fun (in a really scary way), but they are also great ways to learn about a city.
Oftentimes, when you’re on a ghost tour, you’re being taken to all sorts of little nooks and crannies around a city that you didn’t even know existed in the first place. It’s really having the opportunity to look at a city in a truly different way.
Now, we know you’re aware of all the famous cities where you can take ghost tours. But, what about the unexpected spots, the hidden gems where the tours are just as scary?
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here, you’ll find unexpected cities to take a ghost tour.
Let’s go!
Salem, Massachusetts
Way back in 1692, almost twenty people were accused of being witches and were burned at the stake in Salem. This became known as the “Salem Witch Trials,” so it shouldn’t be too hard to guess there are probably quite a few ghosts still wandering around the streets and cemeteries of these parts.
Nashville, Tennessee
There’s a lot more to Nashville than just being the heart and soul of country music. In fact, there are quite a few ghost tours that are offered in this city, including haunted hearse tours (that just sounds spooky) and haunted tavern tours that highlight some of Nashville’s famous history.
Pueblo, Colorado
Pueblo has a storied history and is home to many famous battles that happened as the West was expanded in the 1800s. So, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that there are a number of rumored ghosts wandering around this Colorado town, and plenty of tours highlight them.
Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia
Did you know that this site, home to the famous Battle of Harper’s Ferry is also the place where the very first ghost tour in America started? No wonder they are still going strong! Tours here will take you through battlefields and into churches where guides insist the screams of soldiers can still be heard.
Tombstone, Arizona
Besides having an appropriately spooky name, Tombstone is home to the infamous gunfight at the OK Corral, where over 30 men lost their lives. The city features a number of buildings that claim to be haunted by the ghosts of both old cowboys and the showgirls who performed for them.
Ybor City, Florida
While lots of people head to St. Augustine when they want a Florida-based ghost tour, Ybor City has plenty of scary stuff to offer. With a number of paranormal experts visiting the city every year to document known ghost activity, ghost tours here can certainly increase the ‘scary’ factor.
So, if you love seeing spooky things and being scared out of your wits, these unexpected paranormal hot spots might just be exactly what you’re looking for on your next vacation.
